British Origins

Passenger is proudly based in Hampshire, England. The brand was officially founded by couple Richard and Alexa Sutcliffe in 2013 after a life-changing trip to Canada’s rugged west coast, but the couple’s love of nature stems from their upbringing in the idyllic English south.

Richard, a native of New Forest in Hampshire, spent his childhood ‘between waves and trees’, constantly exploring the region's untouched forests, moors, and cliffside trails. Various trips to other breathtaking areas of the world made him realise that he wanted to create something that embodies his love of nature and travel. Utilising his passion and Alexa’s skills as a graphic designer, the husband and wife team started turning their dreams into a reality upon returning home to the UK.

The brand as we know it was completely built on British soil, despite taking inspiration from abroad. Richard and Alexa spent a year and a half setting up their website and finding suppliers that aligned with their values, all while staying close to their Hampshire home base. To this day, their headquarters are still set up amongst the trees in New Forest.

“Quality that rivals North Face; but British. Finisterre is the original brand that inspired British Works.”
